  • Creates and supports Safe Space Centres for Women and Children
  • Works with the health care system to train health professionals in Clinical Management of Rape and Caring for Child Survivors
  • Responds to emergencies in North Eastern Kenya
  • Uses monitoring and evaluation tools to ensure that services and programming for women and children are timely and that the guiding principles of case management are adhered to
  • Provides support to vulnerable children who have crossed the border including referral to FTR services
Job Description

Assistant Program Manager GBV and Child Protection

The overall objective of this position is to implement the child protection and GBV program in North Eastern Kenya.  

S/he will not only implement this program, but will also provide key technical support on the area of response to CESVI’s partners and community actors.  

S/he will know key child protection and GBV actors in Kenya, understand the legal framework and identify gaps in services.  

They will be dedicated to ending child abuse and have direct experience in working with child and adult survivors of GBV.  Experience of report writing and an excellent use of excel is also necessary for this position.  

Some basic knowledge of the CP IMS would also be beneficial, but is not a requirement. 

They will not only believe in the rights of children, but also have an interest in promoting the rights of women and girls and human rights in general. 

S/he will be a proven team player and will be supported by experienced CESVI staff.

Key responsibilities
  • Training and mentoring child protection committees in psychosocial first aid, clinical management of rape, caring for child survivors and other response approaches
  • Attending local Child Protection and GBV Working Group meetings and reporting pertinent information to the Regional Protection Technical Advisor
  • Will take part in the Child Protection Emergency response team and travel to emergencies as and when necessary in North Eastern Kenya
  • Create a team of community case manager volunteers
  • Use his/her knowledge and background as a social worker to train and mentor social workers working with children
  • Ensure accurate data collection, reporting and analysis from program activities
  • Produce periodic official reports according to project deadlines and donor-related requests, to be submitted to the Regional Protection Technical Advisor and Project Manager for editing and final approval
  • Supervise administration, accounting, procurement issues relating to the project
  • Carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the Program Manager
Requirements
  • A qualified social worker with at least 2 years of experience and a further 1-2 years of experience working with a National or an International NGO in a Managerial role
  • Previous experience working in the field of violence against children and violence against women
  • Experience in capacity building, training and skills building
  • Experience in using participatory learning activities as a facilitator
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas
  • Very enthusiastic and able to work long hours to achieve the objectives of the programme
  • Diplomatic and an effective communicator at all levels
  • Ability to work in an international or multicultural environment
  • Good IT skills (Windows, Office package and internet)
  • Experience in managing finances
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written)
