Organization Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental
issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the
global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for
action. UNEP’s Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing
technical assistance and advisory services to build capacity of environmental management in developing countries and countries with
economies in transition. This post is located in UNEP/DEPI at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision and delegated authority
of the Director of DEPI the incumbent in addition to managing one of the Division’s Branches will
Responsibilities
• Develop and recommend strategies and policies for the implementation of the DEPI programme of work.
• Coordinate and develop the preparation of the DEPI biennium programme of work, and budget, and assist the Director in the
presentation of the programme of work to UNEP Senior Management, and Governing Council.
• Assist the Director in overseeing the day-today administrative, budgetary and personnel issues and in coordinating the
requirements of consultancies and corporate contracts ensuring that emerging issues in the technical specialties have budget
and sufficient expertise.
