The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. Since 2004, NRC has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced and refugee populations. NRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by the ongoing conflict and more recently by the drought and famine. The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Molo) and Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Dolo Ado).
The internship is a learning-cum-working opportunity that targets graduates both fresh and those already in the job market. The intern will be attached to the NRC Nairobi office in the Logistics Unit for a period of 4 months to assist in basic duties that are needed. The intern will be exposed to practical learning-cum-working experiences that foster development of their career path. The Intern will work full time and follow the same working hours as NRC employees. .Upon completion of the internship, the intern may be requested to generate a full report on their internship program as well as fill out an exit questionnaire .
NRC does not guarantee interns employment at the end of the internship period.
Job description
Register all incoming requisitions and update status report on procurement for inclusion and circulation in the status report
Liaise with suppliers to ensure prompt and accurate delivery of goods, services and equipment.
Receive all supplies delivered to the Nairobi office and ensure that they are in good condition together with correct Delivery Notes, Invoices and export documents.
Assist in preparation of documentation for bids committee meetings.
Maintain proper files of requisitions, quotations and purchase orders
Organize for the dispatch of goods and equipment whenever required and verify Prepare transport documentation accompanying dispatches such as packing lists, waybills and loading details to accompany shipment
Prepare and communicate shipping details to field offices
Prepare periodic procurement/shipping updates and circulate to the NRC field operations
Manage inventory control/procurement of consumables and office supplies at Nairobi and ensure available stock in Somalia/Kenya Mission office store
Update the Mission Assets inventory for Nairobi offices and guest/staff houses and generate periodic reports

Excellent attention to detail
Organized and a good planner
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to understand complex emergencies
Excellent working knowledge in Microsoft Office and a computer spreadsheet.
Qualifications
National Diploma in Logistics or Business Administration related discipline
National Certificate level in Purchasing and Supplies preferred additional training.

The intern will observe NRC’s code of conduct; Pledge of Secrecy and working hours for the office in Nairobi.
The interns will be paid a stipend of Ksh 25,000 each month. This stipend will be taxable.
Interns will be responsible for meeting the expenses of their daily accommodation, food and transport to and from the office.
