Our client The Royal Danish Embassy (RDE) is seeking to recruit a dynamic, qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of a Programme Manager to work in the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Sector. 

Presently, the interventions within the natural resource management sector consist of support for environmental management, climate change, agriculture, water resource management and promotion of green growth. 

This support is provided through close collaboration with the Government of Kenya, civil society and private sector.
 
The Embassy’s vision is to promote cooperation between Kenya and Denmark in political, development, commercial and cultural affairs. 

The successful candidate will be involved in formulation and implementation of the Danish development cooperation in Kenya. 

He/she will be part of a team of Danish and Kenyan personnel who are committed to enhancing the effectiveness and coordination of the Danish development aid to Kenya while working in a collegial environment where cooperation, openness and professionalism is highly valued.
 
This is a local staff position based in Nairobi and will initially run on contract for a period of two (2) years with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities
 
As part of the Embassy’s NRM Team, the Programme Manager’s broad functions will include:
  • To manage, administer, budget and monitor Danish supported programmes within NRM Programme and Climate Change Programme;
  • Actively participate in programme and project identification, design, appraisal, monitoring and evaluation;
  • To develop and improve collection of relevant data for analytical work to support the Embassy’s implementation of the present NRM programme as well as the formulation of future programme interventions;
  • To contribute to and participate in development of the knowledge base on NRM issues;
  • Support the development and use of impact and outcome monitoring tools and systems to enhance the programme monitoring and evaluation processes, including regular monitoring visits to project/programme areas;
  • To maintain and improve a broad network with relevant partners in the Kenyan society, including GoK officials, donor representatives, CSO’s, research institutions, the private sector and other stakeholders;
  • Develop initiatives within the program and project designs to respond to climate change and promotion of green growth;
  • Initiate and support preparation of Terms of Reference for required short term technical assistance design, review and appraisal missions and follow up on recommendations made; and
  • Participate in development of the national strategic framework in the NRM sector.
Person Specifications:
 
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Economics, Development Studies and relevant Masters degree;
  • Post graduate qualification in project/programme design, development and management will be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in programme management, development and implementation of community based enterprises with a focus on climate adaptation and mitigation, agri-business development or gender mainstreaming;
  • Knowledge and implementation of programming tools such as the Logical Framework Approach, advanced monitoring and evaluation tools;
  • Broad knowledge of environmental and natural resource management issues and knowledge on the workings of United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and other international organisation will be an added advantage; and
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, high proficient in office applications, use of Internet for research and fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
