Coffee Board of Kenya Quality Control and Assurance Officers jobs

The Coffee Board of Kenya (Board) is a State Corporation established under the Coffee Act No. 9 of 2001 & is charged with the responsibility of promoting competitiveness in the Coffee Industry, Production, Processing and Branding of Kenyan Coffee and generally to regulate the Coffee Industry in the Public interest. The Board wishes to fill the following vacant positions with dynamic, results- oriented and self driven individuals:
1.QUALITY CONTROL & ASSURANCE OFFICER I REF. CBK7QCMD/01/01/2013
Duties and Responsibilities
This is a Permanent & Pensionable position, reporting to the Chief Quality Control Marketing & Research Manager, the officer will be in charge of the quality unit & responsible for the following: –

  • Ensure Coffee Quality Analysis (Cupping), prepare reports and disseminate information to stakeholders;
  • Ensure preparation of samples and equipment for undertaking Coffee quality evaluation;
  • Ensure Management, inspection of & provision of reports on direct sales;
  • Development of Coffee brands for product differentiation;
  • Provide advisory services and ensure compliance with the Coffee Standards & Code of Practice;
  • Maintain accurate & up to date data and statistics for the Industry
  • Ensure Issuance & verification of relevant export documentation including certificates of origin (ICO)
  • Analyze coffee grading and classification data from trade and generate reports
  • Ensure Licensing of Coffee Cuppers
  • Ensure Board’s oversight role of the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE)
  • Ensuring proper coding and safe custody of coffee samples and data on liquoring
  • Ensuring that liquoring equipment are in good working condition
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment
  • Must have a Bachelor Degree in Food Science & Technology, Food Nutrition or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Served in a comparable and relevant position in a reputable organization for a minimum period of five (5) years;
  • Must have a Coffee liquoring certificate or its equivalent
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
  • Demonstrate effective leadership qualities, personal drive and be a team player
  • Must be fluent in English and Kiswahili; and
  • Must be computer literate
2.QUALITY CONTROL & ASSURANCE OFFICER II REF. CBKVQCMD/02/01/2013
Duties and Responsibilities
This is a Permanent & Pensionable position, reporting to the Head of Quality Assurance Section, an officer at this level will be responsible for the following: –

  • Undertake Coffee Quality Analysis (Cupping), prepare reports and disseminate information to stakeholders;
  • Preparation of samples and equipment for undertaking Coffee quality evaluation;
  • Management, inspection of & provision of reports on direct Development of Coffee brands for product differentiation;
  • Provide advisory services and ensure compliance with the Coffee Standards & Code of Practice;
  • Analyze coffee grading and classification data from trade and generate reports
  • Regularly Conduct Coffee Cuppers Examination
  • Assist in proper coding and safe custody of coffee samples & data on liquoring
  • Ensuring that liquoring equipment are in good working condition
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

3.QUALITY CONTROL & ASSURANCE OFFICER III REF. CBKfQCMD/03/01/2013
Duties and Responsibilities
This is a Permanent & Pensionable position, reporting to the Head of Quality Assurance section, an officer at this level will be responsible for the following: –

  • Receive, register, code and store coffee samples
  • Preparation & analysis of coffee samples for quality cup evaluation
  • Prepare and set up equipment for coffee quality evaluation
  • Roasting, grinding and packaging coffee for promotion
  • Data Management and maintenance of records of sample evaluations
  • Conduct Coffee Cuppers examination
  • Maintain the liquoring room & equipment in good working condition
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment
  • Have a Diploma in Coffee Technology and Cupping, Food Science & Technology, Food Nutrition or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Have a Certificate in Coffee Liquoring or its equivalent
  • Served in a comparable and relevant position in a reputable organization for a minimum period of three (3) years
  • Have attained at least a C- (minus) grade in KCSE or equivalent qualification
  • Be of high integrity and a team player
  • Be fluent in English and Kiswahili, and
  • Be computer literate.
