COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
Background and Introduction:
The mission of the Zeitz Foundation is to create and support sustainable, ecologically and socially responsible projects and destinations around the world to achieve long-lasting impact and sustainability. Our goal is to maintain or improve the integrity of ecosystems through effective, sustainable management practices that enhance the ability of ecosystems to deliver services for the benefit of mankind. To achieve this mission and goal, the Zeitz Foundation promotes an innovative approach to sustainable ecosystem management based on balancing conservation,community, culture and commerce (the 4Cs).
Effective communications is an integral component of achieving the Zeitz Foundation’s vision. The role of the
Communications Coordinator is to ensure that Zeitz Foundation activities and those of its members are effectively communicated to key target audiences and the global outreach of the Zeitz Foundation is expanded. A dynamic,creative and experienced person is sought for this position and will be based in
Nairobi, Kenya.

Roles & Responsibilities:
• Advise the Zeitz Foundation on the elaboration and implementation of an overall Communications Strategy
and event-specific communications strategies
• Develop and write outreach materials and communications products, including press releases, newsletters,
updates, and contributions to the annual report, and produce communications materials to support
Foundation activities
• Responsible for the further development and enhancement of the Zeitz Foundation websites
www.zeitzfoundation.org and www.thelongrun.com: including writing, regularly updating content; soliciting
timely contributions from members; coordinating external technical consultants/developers; and ensuring
content of all websites are coordinated and mutually supportive.
• Responsible for maintaining and updating existing social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter,
Youtube and Creative Africa Network and identifying new social networking opportunities and linking these
with members.
• Responsible for maintaining and updating the Zeitz Foundation intranet facility (socialcast); encouraging
regular usage by staff/members; and responding to queries.
• Responsible for maintaining and updating the Zeitz Foundation contacts database
• Coordinate and support Foundation media outreach activities with the Foundation Publicist and respond to
media enquiries.
• Support communications activities of the Long Run Initiative (LRI) members and provide communications
support to the LRI Coordinator
• Support communications activities of the Segera Programme and provide communications support to the
Segera Programme Manager
• Supervise interns and consultants supporting the Foundation’s communications activities.

Skills and experience required:
• A graduate qualification in a relevant field
• A minimum of five years work experience in a communications position.
• Experience in the management of websites and other social networking tools.
• Ability and experience in writing communications materials.
• Kenyan nationality.
The communications coordinator will report to the Zeitz Foundation Executive Director and liaise regularly with the Communications Advisor, Long Run Coordinator and Conservation and Community Programme Manager, as well as other staff on occasion.
