NETWORK ADMINISTRATION MANAGER JOB IN KENYA

Directorate: Information Communication Technology

Position: Network Administration Manager

Ref: NCWSC2012-007

Location: Headquarters-Kampala Road Industrial Area

Grade: 3

Reporting to: ICT Director

Supervises: Network Administration Coordinators and Officers


Broad Role:

To be charged with the responsibility of managing the company’s Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) functions i.e. Network maintenance, recovery, topology, security and availability.

Duties and Responsibilities

Install, administer and configure
network servers, workstations, and remote access wireless equipments
Maintain network and workstation hardware and software
Monitor network to ensure availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability
To supervise other network support technicians and plan, co-ordinate, and implement network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users
To manage performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources
Analyze user support statistics and other data and recommend appropriate measures
Maintain the operating system and security software utilized on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges
Identify utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations
Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures
Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability
Document network problems and resolutions for future reference
Participate in designing, setting up, implementing and testing business continuity and disaster recovery installations.

Education, Professional Qualifications and Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer science /Management Information Systems /Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a busy networking environment 3 of which should be at management level
Prove of experience in network system design, development methods and techniques.


Required Skills and Competencies

Extensive knowledge of computer network system engineering (Preferably MCSE)
Considerable knowledge of capabilities, utilization, and limitations of data processing equipment
Good knowledge of standard computer languages and operating systems, including AIX or UNIX
Good knowledge of VPN, IP addressing and TCP/IP networking (including networking technology such as CCNP)
Broad knowledge of network management practices and procedures
