Our client, a leading day co-ed nursery and primary school that has been in existence for over thirty years in Kenya is seeking to hire a head teacher who will manage the school’s day to day operations.
 
Job Responsibilities:-
 
Leadership and Management
  • Create, implement and oversee curriculum delivery strategies that will promote the institution as a centre of academic excellence.
  • Take part in collaborative activities within the Ministry of Education’s programmes especially at county level, including test development, marking of examinations and officiating at co-curriculum events.
  • Develop, motivate and lead all staff to achieve the highest professional standards.
  • Build a learning community within the school.
  • Manage change effectively.
  • Manage the school finances effectively; working closely with the Trustees and pro-actively seeking further funding opportunities.
  • Ensure that job descriptions, contracts and performance management for all staff are based on clear roles and responsibilities, reviewed at least annually and consistent with current conditions of employment.
  • Ensure that all policies are kept up to date, working closely with teaching staff and Trustees.
  • Maintain sound procedures for the security, supervision and maintenance of the school environment, ensuring that all Health & Safety regulations are met and that the school premises are fit for purpose.
  • Ensure that the school is managed in accordance with the Independent Schools Standards, Safeguarding, Equality Act and all other relevant legislation.
  • Technology competencies appropriate to 21st century educators.
Teaching, Learning, Curriculum and Standards
  • Teaching duties as required. Evidence of ability to handle at least two examinable subjects at KCPE level.
  • Lead in the design and implementation of a curriculum which inspires and engages all pupils.
  • Ensure a consistent and continuous school-wide focus on pupil assessment and achievement, using appropriate data and benchmarks to set, monitor and evaluate individual pupil progress.
  • Take a lead in providing nurturing and attentive pastoral care for all pupils with support, where appropriate, from the wider school community.
  • Take a lead in ensuring exemplary behaviour and attendance and deal with disciplinary issues with support, where appropriate, from the wider school community.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies.
  • Prepare for inspection visits and liaise with OFSTED and the preparation and delivery of subsequent action plans.
Communication and Consultation
  • Maintain and develop the existing Community links.
  • Build effective relationships with community, families and pupils.
  • Oversee the management of the school website and other communications to the school community.
  • Coordinate the school’s work with primary and secondary schools to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of learning and actively engage with other schools and agencies.
  • Regularly and effectively communicate the progress of every child’s learning to the parents, Trustees, OFSTED and further education bodies.
  • Work with the Trustees to provide information on all aspects of the school, its progress and intended development, and to promote the school within the wider community.
  • Pro-actively recruit new students to the school, developing and maintaining data systems and procedures for this purpose, including arranging visits for prospective families. 
Other
  • Manage his/her own personal professional development, whilst ensuring the well-being  and a good work/life balance for all personnel.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities delegated by the Trustees are carried out.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected.
Skills and Requirements
  • A Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Education.
  • TSC  P 1 teachers with over 5 years’ continuous service and experience in administration, will be considered.
  • Technology competencies appropriate to 21st Century educators
  • Must have been or currently involved in actual administration of a 8-4-4 private primary school with an enrolment of over 400 pupils
  • Must have  a proven track record of achieving good results at least at provincial level
  • Preferably between 36 yrs and above
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate/suggest ideas that can improve/develop the school in all aspects including academic and extra- curricular activities.
  • Experience in people management and Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated team-building skills and success leading collaborative learning teams
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Energetic, goal-oriented and self-motivated, with an optimistic, “can-do” approach to challenges and change.
  • Integrity and clarity in personal values—which must include love of learning and valuing students as individuals.
  • Strong networking skills both internally, with other schools, TSC/ Government Stakeholders
  • Able to bring in fresh innovative ideas to the board on modern school administration and creative school children management
