EAC Internal Auditor Job

The East African Community (EAC) is the regional intergovernmental organization of the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Burundi with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.
 
This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and result-driven professionals who are citizens of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) to apply for the following position:

Internal Auditor

Ref: EAC/HR//2014-2015/013
 

Position Summary: To conduct independent risk-based internal audits of the EAC Organs and Institutions projects and programmes to identify any weaknesses and in consultation with the auditor-in-charge propose recommendations for improvement.
 
Grade: (P1)
 
Reports to: Principal Internal Auditor
 
Station: EAC Secretariat Headquarters, Arusha Tanzania
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning for normal, snap and follow-up reviews and carry out the fieldwork once plan is approved by the Principal Internal Auditor;
  • Carry out audit procedures for any segment of an audit under supervision from the auditor-incharge;
  • Interpret results of audit work performed, determine internal control weaknesses, and propose recommendations for consideration by the auditor-in-charge;
  • Properly document work performed and drawing conclusions based on the objective of carrying out the work;
  • Maintain current and permanent audit files;
  • Continue professional development through on-the-job training, self-study, internal and external audit courses as they become available;
  • Analyse and document audit findings in accordance with International standards for Professional Practices of Internal Auditing issued by the institute of Internal Auditors (IIA);
  • Prepare the draft audit reports;
  • Identify gaps, propose for consideration desirable updates to the audit programs, and audit manual to the Principal Internal Audit;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head of Internal Audit or the deputy, or Principal Internal Auditor.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or economics, with specialty in accounting or equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
  • Certified Chartered Accountant in Public or Private Accounting and registered to practice by the National Accounting Body of your country;
  • Minimum five (5) years post qualification experience in audit;
Skills and Competencies
  • Advanced Proficiency in computerised accounting packages;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation);
  • Advanced organisation and planning skills;
  • Excellent analytical and numerical, and investigative skills;
  • Knowledge of Financial Regulations and Accounting procedures (IPSA).
  • Experience using computer aided audit techniques.
Duration of Contract: One year renewable, based on performance and availability of funds.
 
Terms and Conditions of Service
 
All positions are subject to the application of the Quota System while the Drivers positions under the General Support Staff category are subject to recruitment under local terms and from the host country only.

Education Qualifications
 
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognised by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective countries. 

This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
 
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their countries. Examples include: Accountants, Auditors, Engineers, Procurement Specialists, and Medical Personnel.

Relevant Working Experience
 
Relevant working experience in this regard refers to post highest required education work experience.
 
Internship, training, apprenticeship and clerkship will not be considered as relevant work experience. 

The same will apply for any experience attained before professional certification where relevant.
