Senior Investment Officer
for Fair Trade and Sustainable Agriculture Finance
 
This opening is related to our investment funds’ activity in Africa, with a focus on financing working capital and fixed assets of agriculture producer organizations and also other parties involved in the sustainable agricultural value chain (traders, processors, seeds providers, machinery providers, etc.).
 
The position will primarily be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Originating and nurturing business relations with producer and agricultural value chain organizations in Africa
  • Support in the continuous development of our agricultural investment strategy in Africa
  • Credit risk analysis of such organizations, of their markets, and of the traded commodities, including due diligence, financial modelling and scoring exercises
  • Interaction with credit risk management, investment committee and transaction management and external service providers to implement and structure transactions
  • Monitoring of portfolio investments and corresponding markets
While this position will be based in Nairobi, you will spend an initial period in our Paris office. 

The position requires significant travel across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Experience & skills
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in the assessment of commodity driven organizations. Project finance experience is a plus
  • Experience in the soft commodity trading area and/or the agriculture value chain finance sectors preferred
  • Degree in business administration, finance, economics or a related field. Advanced graduate degree preferred
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English, African languages and French are a plus
  • Strong analytical, writing and presentation skills
  • Strong financial modeling and accounting skills; proficiency with spreadsheets
  • Flexible and self-reliant personality with good intercultural skills
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for development finance
Senior Investment Officer
 
Financial Institutions Debt Financing (100%)
 
This opening is related to our investment funds’ activity in Africa, with a focus on financial institutions debt financing.
 
The position will primarily be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Developing, managing and growing responsAbility’s debt portfolio in Africa with a focus on Francophone countries
  • In charge of the full investment cycle including origination, credit risk assessments of existing and/or potential counterparties (microfinance institutions, retail and SME banks, holdings and networks) and portfolio monitoring
  • Interaction with credit risk management, investment committee, transaction management and external service providers to implement transactions
  • The position requires significant travelling across Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Representing the company at conferences, seminars and other relevant events in the region
Experience & skills
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the financial sector in an international environment, ideally as credit analyst and/or investment officer
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the assessment and/or financing of financial institutions in developing markets, preferably in Africa
  • Degree in economics, business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • High degree of flexibility regarding travelling
  • Excellent oral and written level of English and French. Portuguese or any African language would be a plus.
  • Strong analytical, writing and presentation skills
  • Flexible and self-reliant personality with good intercultural skills
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for impact investments
Electro Mechanical Engineer
 
The Electro Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for participate in project evaluation to determine technical and financial viability of projects. 

He will also play the lead role in electromechanical equipment selection based on site specific characteristics. 

The EM engineer will also lead our sourcing of the electro mechanical equipment, ascertaining quality
providers, oversee the EM design, procurement, installation and commissioning. 

The role will also include supervision of the electromechanical contractors through commissioning of our various hydropower projects.

Experience and skills:
  • Extensive experience in electromechanical work for hydro power projects.
  • Proven track record managing teams and contractors in all phases of power project development from the prefeasibility stage through to construction and commissioning
  • Knowledge and experience in power plant operations, maintenance, and staffing
  • Familiarity with grid connection issues
  • Experience in civil works development for hydroelectric power projects
  • Experience in turbine selection and EM contractor supervision
  • Proven track record in carrying out independent evaluation on technical drawings and specifications with an emphasis on the EM.
  • Experience working on construction of hydroelectric sites preferably in a planning and supervisory role
  • A self-starter who can work independently as well as in a team environment
While you will be based in Nairobi, a substantial amount of time is expected to be spent travelling in East Africa.

To fulfil these requirements, you possess:
  • A Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering
  • Relevant engineering professional certification required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong communication and intercultural skills
  • Excellent oral and written English, additional African language skills would be of advantage
