Save the Children East Africa Regional Office (EARO) is looking to recruit an Associate Area Director for East Africa for a two years engagement
Role purpose: Ensure Save the Children Norway’s interests in the region, follow-up on our program
implementation in East Africa and identify new opportunities for funding.

The position includes 30% time allocated to Technical Assistance to develop Child Rights Governance and Child Protection across the region.
Work location will be the Nairobi regional office with extensive travelling to relevant Save the Children Country Offices.
Key areas of accountability
- Ensure close follow up on planning, reporting and program implementation of Save the Children Norway’s East Africa portfolio
- Build relationship with management team in country offices in East Africa
- Provide oversight, support and quality assurance to Child Rights Governance and Child Protection programs in the region (30%)
- Contribute to regional coordination and prioritization of Save the Children Norway’s activities in East Africa
- Initiate and participate in income generating work by building relationships with local embassies, UN, EU and other international organizations and potential donors
- Support country programs in application processes
- Build relationships with other NGOs and the international community at large in the region
- Communicate regional results internally, nationally and internationally and promote internal and external dissemination of Save the Children Norway learning in the region
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in social work, social science, social policy or related field
- International experience and program understanding
- Broad understanding of human rights, child rights and development issues, international relations and the international and Norwegian humanitarian systems.
- Experience from Child Rights Governance and Child Protection work
- Cross-cultural experience, understanding and sensitivity
- Commitment to Save the Children’s values
- A professional qualification at minimum master level
- Proficiency in English and Norwegian (both written and verbal)
