Laboratory technologist job in Kenya

Children of God Relief Institute, well known as Nyumbani, cares for children who are HIV positive. The centre in Karen has a well developed Nyumbani Diagnostic Laboratory registered and approved by the Government of Kenya to operate as a Diagnostic laboratory. It offers all HIV testing. The department is recruiting a Laboratory technologist.
LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST
Purpose:
Assist the Laboratory Manager in the coordination of laboratory activities. Provide accurate, timely and cost effective testing of patient samples, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Accountability:
To the Laboratory Manager, ultimately the Executive Director

Job Responsibilities:
  • To perform all aspects of laboratory work, necessary to support the laboratory’s need for quality assurance.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations keeping information confidential thus following the employee confidentiality policy.
  • Collecting and processing the specimens accordingly by following the laid down policies and procedures for quality resulting.
  • To offer high quality diagnostic services.
  • To offer good laboratory practice to the satisfaction of the client and management.
  • Preparation and implementation of standard operation procedures – SOPs according to ISO 15189 requirements.
  • Perform data entry for commodity management in the daily consumption register.
  • Monitor the efficient use of laboratory reagents in respective departments.
  • Update laboratory charts on a daily and monthly basis as required.
  • Performing Internal and External QCs as required.
  • Calibrating, operating and maintaining Laboratory instruments.
  • Maintaining clean and safe working environments by performing daily cleaning procedures and following the laid down safety policies.
  • Perform laboratory marketing services in view of providing quality and accurate results to patients.
  • Recording and verifying Laboratory tests results and procedures accurately.
  • Supports inter- and intra-departmental cooperation by contributing to effective working relationships and team building activities as well.
  • Accomplishes laboratory mission by completing related tasks as needed.
  • Reports incidences and equipment breakdowns to the laboratory manager or QAO.
  • Maintenance of laboratory safety at all times.
  • Orientation and training for new staff and students.
  • Provides necessary support to the QAO and Lab manager.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the laboratory manager.
Qualification:
  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology with three years experience
  • Degree in laboratory Sciences or an equivalent from a recognized college/university with two years experience
  • High experience in Laboratory Technology
  • VCT Counseling skills
  • Ability to use computer for data and necessary laboratory information
  • Registered and License from KMLTTB
