Goldstar Finance Assistant Vacancy

Through the APHIAplus Nuru ya Bonde and APHIA plus Health, Communications and Marketing projects, Goldstar Kenya is building the capacity of private practitioners to provide comprehensive and integrated HIV and TB prevention, care and treatment services that are in line with Government of Kenya health strategies and national standards. 

We seek qualified candidates for the following positions.

Finance Assistant

Location: Nairobi

Basic Function:

Under the supervision of the Finance and Administration (F&A) Manager and being a team member of the F&A unit, maintains the office accounting in accordance with Gold Star (GS Kenya) financial control policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists the F&A Manager with timely completion of accounting and financialreporting requirements for submission to the funding agencies.
  • Coordinates with staff on travel advances to ensure that travel advances are cleared within the allowable time.
  • Reviews travel claims of GS Kenya staff and consultants for correctness and verifies that claims conform to travel authorizations and regulations regarding routings, per diem, accommodation, and use of proper transportation.
  • Assists the F&A Manager with verification of vouchers/invoices submitted to GS Kenya for payment.
  • Tracks and monitors monthly routine bills/ invoices, i.e., telephone, electricity, etc., to ensure payments are processed on time.
  • Responsible for petty cash management.
  • Responsible for tracking and recording VAT payments and reimbursements under USG funding.
  • Maintains all office and project financial accounting files. This includes accounts payable, checking accounts, consultant contracts, travel expenses, and all subproject contracts, agreements and amendments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
  • At least a CPA Part 1 or II. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive working experience in similar environment with adequate exposure to project accounting, financial management, including budgeting, grants and contracts. 
  • Understanding of financial records reconciliation. 
  • Must have demonstrable hands-on experience with an accounting system. Experience with USAID-funded programs preferred. 
  • Experience working with an international organization and a university degree in Commerce or Business Accounting will be an added advantage.
