Project Summary: The Kenya Support Project’s overall objectives are geared to support and strengthen the current USAID/Kenya strategy in meeting day to day information needs in order to make informed program management decisions, as well as to provide substantive support with qualitative, quantitative, and analytical information to assist in continually assessing and evaluating the Mission’s development hypothesis.

Position Summary: MSI, in close coordination with USAID, shall be responsible for producing communications products and publications focused on USAID’s strategy. 

These will include: assisting USAID to liaise with implementing partners, county government information officers and media through various means; repackaging already approved content into formal and social media formats; and developing some original content to be officially cleared by USAID and distributed. 

MSI will engage one Kenyan national for a period of eight months to support regular field visits and developing media content for distribution, media monitoring, and other internal support to USAID’s Development and Outreach Communications (DOC) Office as needed.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with USAID and Mission staff to disseminate communications materials, as needed, including tweets, Facebook posts, press releases, media advisories, Flickr photo stories, and internal slide shows and multi-media.
  • Produce a daily media monitoring report of national Kenyan media, and daily reports (which is already collected by a media monitoring firm.
  • Act as a liaison between USAID and implementing partners, county government information officers and local media through a variety of means.
  • Take two field trips per month to collect information (photos, videos, quotes), and package content as needed.
  • Develop original ‘Transforming Lives’ stories.
  • Support the DOC office as needed.  

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or a relevant related field of study.
  • 3-5 years of related public relations, public outreach or Communications for Development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing written products such as articles, reports, fact sheets, speeches, success stories, and press releases.
  • English language skills at the S/5 and R/5 level to perform communications technical services.
  • Ability to travel as needed throughout Kenya.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • USAID experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
