ICRC Shipping Officer Logistician job in Kenya

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. The ICRC’s Somalia Delegation in Nairobi implements the institution’s humanitarian activities in Somalia and is seeking an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the position mentioned below:

SHIPPING OFFICER LOGISTICIAN
The Profile: ICRC is looking for young and energetic individuals who have good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidates should have a sense of analysis and initiative, the ability to work independently and in a team. The above position demand flexibility and the ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities
  • Manage shipping/transport by any mode (Air, sea, road, rail, river) for ICRC medium/large operation.
  • Ensures safe dispatch of cargo by any means of transport.
  • Communicates Shipping/Receiving activities to all concerned parties.
  • Manage shipping and handling contracts, and actively participates in tendering process, selection and preparation of contracts.
  • Executes office work (update of tables, filing, typing of standard documents)
  • Updates the statistical data’s for the unit
  • Coaches and organizes work of shipping clerk
Minimum Requirements
  • O Level and Diploma in Clearing and Forwarding or Logistics
  • 3 years’ work experience in a similar field of activity
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, any other interactive software)
  • Management skills
  • Excellent command of English
  • Good Negotiation skills
Other Requirements
  • Experience in Shipping Management of goods
  • Experience in humanitarian work;
  • Good knowledge in Logistic business
  • Good report writing and administrative skills,
  • Maturity in dealing with sensitive matters in a highly confidential manner..
