EAGA project coordinator, agronomists, M and E officer jobs in Kenya

East African Growers Limited (EAGA) is a leading grower and exporter of Fresh Vegetables, fruits and cut flowers in Kenya. 
Through a partnership with USAID – Kenya Horticulture competitiveness Project, EAGA is working with small holder farmers on a project aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the Kenyan Horticulture Industry. 
Target areas are counties in Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley.
East African Growers is seeking Qualified, dynamic, self motivated individuals to work on the development and implementation of the project.

Project Coordinator

One Position
 
The main function of this position includes leadership and representation, program support and coordination, team management and supervision, and communication and organizational learning.
  • Plan, develop and implement lean operational processes aligned to best practice to deliver long term competitive advantage, growth and profitability.
  • To take cognizance of time, customer, quality, efficiency, environmental, commercial and sustainability objectives to deliver daily, weekly and monthly results
  • Through effective communication, lead, mentor, manage and develop individuals and teams.
  • To contribute to the management of the company and to promote a culture that enables people to think, be stimulated and to enjoy what they do as valued members of EAGA
  • Ensuring that there is integration and coordination of all project objectives and activities
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of work plans with clear indicators, expected outputs and timeframes
  • Coordinate with program, finance, administrative, and logistics staff at all levels to ensure project systems are in compliance with organization policies and procedures and donor requirements
  • With the M&E officer Prepare tools for monitoring and evaluation and use them for monitoring and evaluating the project.
  • Work with other relevant departments to create, enforce, and maintain policies and systems ensuring effective and transparent use of financial resources and prudent management of organizational assets
Qualifications and experience
  • The person should have a B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture Economics or a related course from a reputable university.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a managerial position
  • Must have excellent report writing, communication and resource mobilization skills
  • Experience in managing donor funded projects and private horticulture sector experience will be an added advantage.
Agronomists 

4 Positions
 
Reporting to the Project Coordinator the successful candidates will be based at Bungona, Kakamega, and Migori Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties in Kenya.
 
Responsibilities
  • Regular farm visits for farm wide crop review and after field visit recommendations
  • Recommendations on allocation of cropping programs, Pesticide listings, Fertilizer recommendations, seed review and recommendations, Soil analysis, Technical liaison with key stakeholders on farming issues
  • Carrying out research & development of new varieties, new pesticides, new crops, and new innovations.
  • Integrated Pest Management training and implementation
  • Strategy & methodology Production to meet specific market outlets
  • Training of Pesticide operatives, scouting, new knowledge & irrigation management and household nutrition
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Agriculture/Horticulture or related courses. 
  • A minimum of three years hand on experience in managing out-grower schemes or a horticultural farm in a private sector setting is important.
  • Must possess a valid motor cycle riding license with 2 years’ experience
  • Possess general knowledgeable in Global GAP, FTF, T NC and other standards
  • Extensive experience working in the Horticultural sector will be an added advantage.
M&E Officer - Meru
 
Reporting to the Project Coordinator the successful candidate will be based in Meru- Mt. Kenya Region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation systems and framework
  • Design and implement research studies and evaluations
  • Organize formal training programs and ensure systems are in place and running.
  • Provide on-site participatory M&E training for farmers
  • Facilitate out grower schemes and operations while enhancing accountability systems
  • Assist in report preparations and provide document support to technical advisers
  • Assist in overall project implementation
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • Bachelors degree or Diploma in Agriculture/Horticulture or related courses
  • At least 2 years hands on experience in social science research, monitoring & evaluation.
  • Demonstrated skills in at least two recognized statistical packages e.g. SPSS, Epi-Info, Excel and Access.
  • Documentation skills and record keeping
  • Good working experience in community participation and development
  • Must possess a valid motor cycle riding license with 2 years experience
  • Possess general knowledge in Global GAP, FTF, TNC and other standards.
