SunnyMoney is a fast-growing social enterprise operated by SolarAid that aims to enable the world’s poorest people to have access to clean, renewable power. The mission is to eradicate the use of kerosene for lighting in Africa by the end of this decade.

Purpose for this post

The purpose of this post is to help achieve the overall SunnyMoney goal through achievement of sales targets and growth of the SunnyMoney brand and business model in Kenya.

The post is an exciting opportunity for a skilled, dynamic and experienced business person looking to transfer their skills to an emerging ‘Bottom of the Pyramid’ market.

Duties and Responsibilities;

Sales Growth

Summary

Responsible for all sales activities in assigned accounts or regions. Manage quality and consistency of product and service delivery.


Primary Responsibilities

Present and sell company products and services to current and potential clients.
Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and to project the number of contacts to be made.
Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity.
Identify sales prospects and contact these and other accounts as assigned.
Prepare presentations, proposals and sales contracts.
Develop and maintain sales materials and current product knowledge.
Establish and maintain current client and potential client relationships.
Prepare paperwork to activate and maintain contract services.
Manage account services through quality checks and other follow-up.
Identify and resolve client concerns.
Prepare a variety of status reports, including activity, closings, follow-up, and goals.
Communicate new product and service opportunities, special developments, information, or feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.
Coordinate company staff to accomplish the work required to close sales.
Develop and implement special sales activities to reduce stock.
Other duties as assigned.


Additional Responsibilities

Participate in marketing events such as seminars, trade shows, and telemarketing events.
Follow-up for collection of payment.
Coordinate shipping schedules and delivery of merchandise and services.
Provide on-the-job training to new sales employees.

Reporting

Provide Line Manager with regular sales updates and activities.
Submit accurate monthly sales reports within the required time frame.
Liaise with finance and administration teams to ensure customer accounts are paid on time and credit limits are well managed.

Key Competencies:

Experience in C-level direct capture campaigns and sales performance based on specific targets.
Motivated and self-directed sales professional that can operate within proper guidelines
Exceptional communication skills, presentation, negotiation and management skills, strong business work ethic, positive attitude and professional demeanour required
Advanced MS Office skills and advanced networking and relationships in the industry
Must demonstrate competence in management, networking, target marketing to specific prospects and have advanced selling skills, along with the ability to mentor a team to those same disciplines.
Proven people skills with effective experience in training, managing, mentoring and evaluating direct sales reports as assigned.


Person Specification

Skills/Experience

Essential

University degree in sales and marketing with a minimum of 3 years sales and account management experience
Good working knowledge of marketing, sales and business administration.
Excellent planning skills with experience of management issues (people and budgets) and the ability to work in a variety of contexts
Excellent time-management and organisation skills
Computer literacy
Driving Licence
University graduate

Desirable

Experience across distribution channels with a track record of results scaling up a business
Retail management/ supply chain experience
Good knowledge of current development thinking as well as of the political, economic and development issues relating to East/Southern Africa
Experience in the solar sector (preferable)
Experience working with people in remote sites/at a distance
Demonstrated skills in people and project management

Personal Qualities

Natural salesperson, able to build excitement about solar energy
Self-starter with capacity to work under minimum supervision & support and the ability to manage multiple priorities and workload
Strong people development skills
Willingness and flexibility to spend time in rural African communities
Enthusiasm and commitment to SolarAid and SunnyMoney’s work
Confident communicator, able to negotiate mutually beneficial partnerships with partners, businesses and communities
Good work ethic and integrity.
