IRC NGO SOCIAL WORK JOB VACANCIES IN KENYA

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kenya serves vulnerable populations in the Turkana and Garissa regions as well as in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The IRC implements programs in the areas of comprehensive primary health care, nutrition, protection, peace building, water and sanitation and hygiene (WASH), HIV/AIDS prevention, response to gender based violence, disaster risk reduction (DRR), livelihoods and governance.

The IRC launched women’s protection and empowerment programs in Kenya in the immediate aftermath of the post-election crisis, and has initiated activities that support women and girls in Nairobi, Turkana Country and the Dadaab refugee camps through a variety of activities including health and GBV prevention and response programming.

IRC is currently preparing to support the development of peace networks and platforms for women to be effectively involved in decision making and leadership.

Applications are invited for the following positions:

1. Project Director, Nairobi

Reporting to the Country Director, the Project Director will be responsible for overall project management, supervision, administration, and implementation of project objectives including granting and procurement activities.

Additionally, the Project Director will be the overall lead for the project, ensuring programmatic quality and adherence to best practice throughout project implementation.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree or higher in social work (MSW), public health (MPH), humanities, international affairs, other related field
Minimum of five-seven years of professional experience in a leadership role implementing and overseeing complex programs in a humanitarian or development context
Experience in conflict, leadership, and peace programming at the local and national level
Exceptional gender gender, GBV, leadership, and other sector-specific technical skills and knowledge
Experience working and coordinating with government bodies and local actors in a complex and changing environment

Experience managing US Government-funded projects is highly desired
Demonstrated skills and experience in complex program design and monitoring
Strong analytical and strategic planning and implementation skills
Ability and interest to work with a diverse and multicultural team in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner
Fluency in spoken and written English, Swahili preferred.

2. Capacity Building / Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, Nairobi

Reporting to the Program Director, the Capacity Building/Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will be responsible for working with Kenya NGOs and CBOs on GBV and gender issues, providing on-site capacity building, mentoring, and training as needed and requested by partners

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree or higher in social work (MSW), public health (MPH), humanities, international affairs, other related field preferred.
Minimum of two-three years of professional experience in implementing and overseeing complex programs in a humanitarian or development context, specifically GBV programming or direct service provision to survivors of violence.
Experience in conflict, leadership, and peace programming at the local and national level in Kenya
Exceptional gender, GBV, leadership, and other sector-specific technical skills and knowledge from a Kenya perspective
Experience working, coordinating, and networking with a variety of actors at different levels in Kenya particularly implementing related project monitoring & evaluation plans
Knowledge, skills and experience in participatory methods of community development and mobilization with local actors
Strong background in monitoring and evaluation of project activities
Experience working with or in US Government-funded projects is strongly recommended
Demonstrated skills and experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring activities for national staff and local NGO or CBOs
Ability to travel upon request
Fluency in spoken and written English, Swahili preferred.

3. Program Coordinator, Nairobi

Reporting to the Project Director, Program Coordinator will provide regular on-site monitoring visits, and continuous remote support to the teams working throughout the country to ensure that all interventions are technically sound, take into account international best practices, and appropriate in meeting the needs of GBV survivors in relevant communities.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree or higher in social work (MSW), public health (MPH), humanities, international affairs, other related field preferred.
Minimum of three-five years of professional experience in a management or coordination role implementing and overseeing complex programs in a humanitarian or development context, specifically GBV programming or direct service provision to survivors of violence.
Experience in conflict, leadership, and peace programming at the local and national level.
Exceptional gender, GBV, leadership, and other sector-specific technical skills and knowledge from a Kenya perspective.
Experience working, coordinating, and networking with a variety of actors at different levels in Kenya.
Experience working with or in US Government-funded projects is strongly desired.
Demonstrated skills and experience in program design, monitoring, and implementation.
Ability and interest to work with a multicultural team in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
Ability to travel upon request.

4. Gender and Conflict Specialist, Nairobi

Reporting to the Program Director, the Gender and Conflict Specialist will advise Project and project related staff, including IRC country management, on issues related to gender and conflict ensuring that prevention and mitigation strategies are put in place at all levels of program implementation.


Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree or higher in social work (MSW), public health (MPH), humanities, international affairs, other related field preferred.
Minimum of two-three years of professional experience in a humanitarian or development context, specifically GBV programming or direct service provision to survivors of violence.
Experience in emergency conflict, leadership, and peace programming in Kenya.
Strong background in local GBV, leadership, and in other sector-specific technical skills and issues.
Experience working with or in US Government-funded projects is recommended.
Ability to multi-task and manage a number of different initiatives at one time, with flexibility and creativity.
Ability and interest to work with a diverse and multicultural team in a collaborative, respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
Demonstrated skills and experience in working with international or local non-profit organizations.
Kenya experience, especially related to the post-election crisis.
Fluency in spoken and written English, Swahili preferred.
