KEMRI / CDC DATA ANALYST JOB IN KENYA

Program description:

This program is a collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV, TB, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections, and other diseases. It is in this mandate that the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) branch has a vacancy to fill.

Position: Data Analyst III (1 position) MR 7
Location: Kisumu District Hospital (DVBD) and Kisian
Reporting to: Study Co-ordinator, Kisian


Essential Requirements:

Diploma in Computer Studies or Information Technology.
KCSE minimum C- (Minus) or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year working in data management preferable within the research set-up
Knowledge in use, handling and care of PDAs and smart phones is essential
Proven leadership, management, interpersonal, decision making and analytical skills.
Experience with handling qualitative data and software

Desirable qualities, skills and abilities:

Experience in Data Cleaning
Experience in working with PDAs and smart phones is an added advantage
Attention to detail and good work ethics

Good judgment in problem solving, awareness of own limitations, and strong internal motivation
Be able to prioritize tasks and meet set deadlines
Must be able to multitask with several programs at the same time including Ms Excel and Ms Access
Must have good organizational skills
Strong writing and communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
Flexible and able to work with minimal supervision.
Must be a team player

Responsibilities:

Responsible for overall data management
Participate in programming and data management of program data.
Ensure lab and field data is entered accurately and timely into the databases – meet data team allocated targets
Enter data into web portal using a paper and electronic data entry systems.
Track, scan and file completed questionnaires and forms.
Track the movement of forms between the Data Center and the field.
Communicate closely with Study Co-ordinator and PI to ensure priority tasks are completed.
Ensure that data is routinely backed up, anti-virus scans are conducted, and data security measures are adhered to protect data and patient confidentiality
Troubleshoot and solve common electronic data capture systems problems
Print forms that are required for data collection.
Perform data cleaning and Quality Assurance
Work well with members of the program/research teams including Study co-ordinator, Laboratory technologists, field workers & data clerk
Prepare reports on request by the PI
Perform other duties as assigned by Study co-ordinator or PI

Terms of Employment: 

Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
