NORTHERN WATER SERVICES BOARD INSPECTORATE/ SANITATION OFFICER AND POWER PLANT MECHANIC JOBS IN KENYA

Northern Water Services Board (NWSB) was established on 12th March 2004 vide gazette notice
No. 1715 under section 51 of the Water Act 2002. Its are covers the whole of North Eastern
province and parts of Rift Valley province and Eastern province. This covers the counties of
Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Laikipia, Samburu, Isiolo and Marsabit.

GAWASCO is an “Agent” of Northern Water Services Board and is a medium sized water
service provider appointed by the NWSB to provide adequate quality water and sanitation
services to its customers in Garissa Municipality and its environs.

We are seeking to fill the following key management positions in the company’s establishment.

INSPECTORATE /SANITATION OFFICER (SEWERAGE)
Reporting to the Technical Manager

Key Responsibilities
• To be In charge of sewerage department.
• To ensure that the sewer systems and all sewerage structures/ components are in good
working condition.
• To ensure that blockages and leaks are attended to on time.
• To keep and maintain all the records pertaining to sewerage services and operations.
• To ensure that submission of reports to the relevant institutions is done on timely basis.
• To ensure maintenance of the sewer pumping stations and the ponds.
• To ensure that samples are taken on timely basis and that the effluent meets the required
standards.
• To ensure that annual departmental budget and procurement plan is submitted to the
technical manager on time.
• Skills development of departmental staff through proper training.

Qualifications
• A Diploma in water engineering and waste water disposal or Diploma in water
technology, sanitation option or an equivalent diploma from a recognized institution.
• Have at least 3years post qualification experience in sewerage systems and in a
supervisory position.
• Should be highly professional, self-starter, self-motivated and a high achiever and should
possess leadership qualities
• Computer literacy is an added advantage
• Should be ready and be prepared to work during odd hours.

POWER PLANT MECHANIC
Reporting to the Technical Manager

Key Responsibilities
• Maintenance and timely servicing of generators.
• Regular maintenance, repair and servicing of water pumps and other equipments
• Regular maintenance of the mechanical parts of the water filters systems.

• To keep records on repair and maintenance and to ensure that they are submitted to the
technical manager on timely basis.
• To advise other staff on operations of equipments and keep track of operations.
• To ensure that the annual sectional budget and procurement plan is submitted to the
technical manager on time.
• Liaise with the senior management through the Technical Manager on any arising urgent
issues on plants and equipments that may affect the operations and give suggestions on
what should be done.

Qualifications
• At least 0 Level Certificate with Craft certificate Grade 1 from directorate of industrial
training (DIT) or any other recognized institution.
• Should have a good command/understanding of diesel engine running faults.
• Good understanding of control panel faults and how to repair.
• Good technical knowledge of both surface and submersible pumps on installation, repair,
operation and maintenance
• A self-driven and work oriented person with good time management discipline.
• Ready to work during odd hours
• Computer literacy is an added advantage.
