UNOPS FIELD MONITOR ASSISTANT JOBS VACANCY IN KENYA

Duty Stations: Nairobi, Isiolo, Mombasa and Eldoret in Kenya
Duration: Initially until 31 December 2011, with possible extension

Background
WFP has been piloting seasonal use of cash for assets in Mwingi since October 2010, and has expanded cash
transfers to the other marginal agricultural areas where beneficiaries currently receive food. It is expected that
instead of food, WFP will directly transfer cash to beneficiaries to enable them buy food. In preparation for the
expansion, WFP Field Offices require additional support of field monitor assistants to collect and clean
beneficiary information, to assist in the coordinating enrolment, and to collect and compile & submit monthly
market monitoring reports

Duties and Responsibilities
With overall guidance from the WFP Programme Innovations Team (Nairobi), the Field Monitor Assistants (FMA)
will be based in the field offices and will report to the WFP Head of Field Offices Isiolo, Nairobi and other
locations

Outputs
• A pre-enrolment beneficiary list including names, ID numbers and other information required for
enrolment.
• A post-enrolment beneficiary list including attendance at training and Equity Bank account numbers
Activities
• Facilitate the beneficiaries targeting and registration process in close collaboration with NGO partners.
• Compile beneficiary information into an Excel sheet.
• Verify and clean information as required.
• Collect training records at enrolment and incorporate these into the beneficiary list.
• Incorporate beneficiary account information from the local Equity Bank branch manager into the
beneficiary list.
• Check monthly information submitted by CPs for accuracy and completeness.
• Follow up on any discrepancies or errors identified by WFP or Equity Bank.
• Carry out market monitoring and submit information on time.
• Working in close collaboration with the WFP Deputy Head of Field Office/Head of Satellite Office, plan
for distribution and post distribution monitoring (DM/PDM) activities in the district;
• Monitor and periodically review cash distribution and the process, verify that correct amounts are
transferred.

Required Selection Criteria
Competencies
• Ability to interpret, analyze and resolve problems
• Highly motivated with a positive attitude and pro-active problem-solving approach.
• Working knowledge of computer use.
• Familiarity with procedures, reporting requirements and ethical practices of the UN system.
• Focuses on result for the client and responds positively to feedback

Academic Qualifications/Experience/ Language
• Successful completion of secondary school education. University degree is desirable but not a
requirement.
• Two to three years of progressively responsible experience in development, or food aid. Experience
with cash projects and IT experience preferable.
• Good interpersonal and team-building skills; proven ability to work as part of a multicultural team;
strong analytical skills; good computer (especially MS-Excel) and writing skills; previous experience
with data collection a plus.
• Fluency in both written and oral English and Kiswahili.
