ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING AND REPORTING
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the
Secretary-General. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) globally, as well as other UN offices
in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in
the Information Technology Unit of the Division of Conference Services (DCS).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Information Technology, the incumbent will be responsible for creating
high-quality graphics and web design for the Division.
Specifically, the incumbent’s responsibilities will be as follows:
 Creating and managing design concepts, hands-on design and art work for DCS streaming web interface
which should be cross platform, i.e. compatible on multiple browsers and Operating Systems;
 Leading the development and implementation of high-quality, interface design, configuration and graphic design;
 Conceptualizing and designing website layout, graphics, logos and banners;
 Generating graphic images/illustrations, interactive presentations, flash files, sound, and video into
multimedia programmes for use on the DCS streaming webcast website;
 Interacting directly with clients to determine user needs;
 Using a wide range of media, including photography and computer-aided designs;
 Assuming responsibility for the visual branding, design direction, and identity standards;
 Working closely with the DCS-IT team to ensure that all design and programming activities are
coordinated;
 Performing other tasks as directed by the Chief of the DCS-IT Unit.

technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to
learn new technology.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental courses/technical certificate in
information technology, computer science or any other related field will be an advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of six years’ experience in graphic design required. Experience in the following fields will be an
added advantage:
(i) Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Acrobat, Adobe Flash, Adobe Fireworks, Xara3D6, Inkspace or GIMP;
(ii) Image Ready, Word, PowerPoint and other graphics applications;
(iii) HTML, DHTML, PHP, Action Script, Jquery or JavaScript
Languages:
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised,
fluency in oral and written English is required. Working Knowledge of French is desirable.
