RVR Commercial Manager Vacancy - Steel

Job Title: Commercial Manager - Steel
 

Reporting To: General Manager Sales
 
Purpose: Take full responsibility for key performance indicators of the Steel business, mainly transportation volumes and revenues as well as manage existing business and customer relationships for steel cargo, i.e. steel coils, billets and other steel products

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the existing customer relationships, including transportation requests, cargo documentation, invoicing, and debt collection, claims management, input for reporting, contract renewal and related negotiations, and all other aspects
  • Identify opportunities to grow volumes with existing customers.
  • Translate customer requirements into internal action, i.e. planning and manage loading and offloading schedules, plan required capacity etc.
  • Coordinate with other functions within RVR, e.g. Operations, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • Leverage current high growth of overall steel imports to East Africa to generate additional business for RVR.
  • Keep abreast of steel industry activities and recommend any necessary action to grow potential business
  • Have an execution mindset, i.e. to proactively identify and address issues, take full responsibility for his/her area of business, and find creative solutions for arising problems in a timely manner.
  • Support the overall turnaround program of RVR, i.e. look for opportunities to initiate and implement positive change, e.g. development of new strategies to approach the market, optimization of internal and external processes, improvement of services offered to customers, and re-design of the organizational structure where required.
  • Control and manage the departments’ costs in terms of over time, subsistence allowance and other miscellaneous expenditures under your jurisdiction.
  • Facilitate Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities within your team.
  • Contribute to marketing plans, corporate communication and public relations activities in the region.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer.
Role Dimensions
  • Leadership of team within RVR.
  • Regular contacts with customers on all subject matters.
  • Liaison with other stakeholders, e.g. KPA, KRA, and URA.
  • Liaison with Operations Dept. regarding movement of cargo.
  • Liaison with Finance Dept. regarding management of customer accounts.
  • Liaison with Human Resources Dept. on matters of discipline of staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
  • Relevant University degree from a recognized institution.
  • At least 5 years railways, transportation, or other logistics experience at management level
  • Excellent sales or customer relationship handling skills;
  • Proven thorough understanding of logistics and transportation industry;
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent team working and negotiation skills;
  • Entrepreneurial and proactive mindset all proven by respective experience and references.
Other Requirements
  • Post graduate degree/diploma in a relevant area an added advantage, e.g. an MBA.
  • Specific railway knowledge or experience and experience in the steel industry an added advantage
  • Proactive, multi-task with ability to prioritize key projects
  • Good understanding of long-range Strategic Planning and Business Planning processes in Global organizations.
  • Member of a professional body Marketing Society.
