UNDP Kenya wishes to advertise the position of a National Programme Officer (Human Rights and Gender).

Background 
One of the five priority areas of focus under the GoK/UNDP Country Programme 2009-2013 is Fostering Democratic Governance. Under this programme area, UNDP seeks to strengthen the national capacity towards progressive and accelerated realization of human rights and deepened democratic governance. UNDP works closely with both governmental and non-state actors in this regard. Particular emphasis is placed on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The programme also contributes to a process which builds a culture of respect and promotes progressive realization of citizen-centred reforms in the public sector and decentralised public service delivery. Furthermore, this component will also promote accountable and participatory development programming, policy formulation and implementation at the national and local levels. The values that underpin this work include respect for the rule of law, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, gender equality, access to justice and respect for human rights. On safeguarding human rights, UNDP assistance aims to deliver essential outputs, including capacity building and institutional strengthening of State and non-State institutions, including civil society organisations to effectively implement and monitor the implementation of international and regional human rights instruments and support the push for the ratification of key human rights instruments. Underpinning this work are the principles of inclusivity and effective participation of marginalised groups, including women, youth and persons with disabilities.
