BBC Monitoring’s Nairobi office is responsible for gathering news and information from the mass media across the
Middle East and Africa around the clock.
We are now seeking to engage experienced translator journalists with fluent Arabic or Somali. The successful
candidate will have an excellent command of Arabic or Somali as well as English, both written and spoken.
Above all, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a keen interest in news and international affairs, a

passion for regional affairs (especially Middle East, Sudan, Somalia, Horn of Africa), good computer and keyboard
skills, the ability to work under pressure as part of a team, and a willingness to work shifts, including nights and
weekends.
Short-listed candidates will be required to sit editorial, translation and general knowledge tests at our Karen offices.
Successful candidates will later be invited for an interview.
