GOAL KENYA SURVEYOR JOB IN NAIROBI


JOB TITLE: Surveyor
DEPARTMENT: Shelter Project - Daadab
REPORTS TO: Shelter Project Manager
SUPERVISES: None

Job Profile:

Under guidance and supervision of the Shelter Project Manager, the Surveyor will help to set up, supervise and monitor progress and quality of assigned shelter project activities in line with GOAL goals and objectives and ensure compliance to GOAL procedures. The Surveyor will take full responsibility of technical-related aspects of assigned activities in the Shelter Project in North Eastern.

Position holder will be based in Daadab and will work in close collaboration with the all GOAL project teams, and community groups to carry out technical and practical Refugee Camp related surveying activities. He or she may also be required to contribute to development of GOAL project proposals and review GOAL project proposals documents.

Duties/Responsibilities

Project quality and management
Support the setup of the emergency shelter project.
Demarcation of boundaries  of blocks, plots, roads, pathways using surveying and measurement applications such as high precision GPS, total stations, theodolites, levels, GIS, software etc.
Advising GOAL on surveying requirements in relation to the shelter project at the various field sites, by providing technical assistance to meet the required standards.
Ensuring that project deadlines and high quality standards are met.
Build the capacity of field staff involved in the shelter project through training, guidance and orientation.
Developing survey maps as may be required
Ensure that all survey and plotting plans are in line with UNHCR guidelines and sphere standards develop implementation plans and to ensure these plans and GOAL policies are used in the project implementation.
Ensure programme monitoring systems are adhered to, and timely preparation and submission of programme status reports as may be required by the Shelter Project Manager.
Work with relevant emergency project staff (GOAL and other Agency) to ensure systems are in place at field level that will ensure timely completion of surveying maintaining a buffer for the following activities of ground clearance and tent erection.
Support documentation and sharing lessons learned/best practices for emergency interventions.



Representation and coordination
Maintain effective working relationships with partners, local leaders and communities
Represent GOAL on all appropriate forums within the programme area, including all related stakeholders groups.

Reporting and Communication
To ensure that any required reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Ensure the Shelter Project Manager is fully apprised of all activities designated to his/her responsibility and any other difficulties that may arise, through regular briefings/meetings, both formal and informal.
Provide regular updates to government and NGOS coordination bodies as requested from time to time.

Competencies
Diploma in Land Survey/ Geodetics/ Geomatics Engineering or Civil Engineering with 5 years surveying experience.
Proved competency in using latest survey applications; high precision GPS, total stations, theodolites, levels, GIS, software, AutoCAD etc.
Familiarity with the aid system, and ability to understand donor and governmental requirements.
Proven ability to work creatively and independently.
Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people.
Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions and under pressure.
Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills.
Excellent spoken and written English, communication, inter personal and team building skills.
Registered with ISK.
