TRUTH, JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION
Background Information
The Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission is established under section 3(1) of the Truth, Justice and
Reconciliation Act No. 6 of 2008 with the objective of promoting peace, justice, national unity, healing, reconciliation
and dignity among the people of Kenya.
The commission invites applications from qualified Kenyans to fill the following job vacancies:
ASSISTANT RESEARCHERS
(2 POSITIONS)
VAN: 5/10/TJRC/RU/4
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level will report to the Director of Research. Duties include:
• Assist the Researchers in conducting research on the various aspects of the Commission’s mandate;
• Preparing memos and communications requiring research;
• Servicing the research needs of the Commission’s constitutive departments;
• Provide rapporteurship services during workshops, meetings and other events held by the Commission; and
• Performing any other duties assigned.
Requirements for Appointment
Candidates must satisfy the following requirements:
• Have an undergraduate degree in either law, political science, history, sociology, anthropology or economics
• 1 - 2 years experience in an academic, policy research environment or legal practice
• An understanding of the work of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission
• An understanding of transitional justice experiences elsewhere in the world or Africa would be an added
advantage
• Have a proven research record(candidate must submit an unedited sample of their written work)
• Excellent skills in research, memo and report writing
• Ability to work under instruction, collectively with others in conceptualizing and producing required research
products
• Ability and willingness to work long hours and to deliver within short deadlines
• Willingness to perform other duties that may be assigned to him/her at the Commission
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CANDIDATES
DURATION OF APPOINTMENT: 12 months or to the termination of the Commission’s statutory mandate whichever is
earlier
DUTY STATION: Nairobi for Researchers and Assistant Researchers and Eldoret for Regional Coordinators Rift valley.
All positions entail travel outside of the duty station.
RENUMERATION: competitive compensation and benefits is offered, subject to professional qualifications and
experience and TJRC rates

English and Kiswahili are the working languages of the Commission. Fluency in English (written and oral) is a
