INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY IN KENYA

The Corporate Communications unit of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT, www.cimmyt.org) is looking for an intern to help with writing, editing, and public relations. CIMMYT is a non-profit, international research organization that develops and promotes improved maize and wheat varieties and cropping systems for farmers in developing countries. The internship will be based at CIMMYT Kenya, located within the ICRAF Campus in Nairobi, Kenya.

The communications intern will work full-time assisting science writers/editors in duties such as:

• Editing and proofing articles for a weekly, internal newsletter.

• Reporting, researching, and writing articles for a bi-monthly e-newsletter distributed to an external audience of thousands.

• Publicizing the impacts of CIMMYT’s research via social media and media relations.

• Developing content about projects, results, meetings, and partnerships for CIMMYT’s website and Blog.

• Monitoring the media for agricultural development-related articles.



• Drafting / editing content for pamphlets, posters, and presentations.

• Other information management and dissemination tasks, as agreed.

The ideal candidate should be able to commit for one year as of 01 March 2012 and have a background in communications, journalism, or international development, an undergraduate degree, and at least 2 years’ writing or editing experience in English. Knowledge of science and agriculture are advantages. CIMMYT will offer the intern a modest monthly stipend, health insurance, and bus transportation to work. The position is for Kenyan nationals only.
