Nuru International Monitoring and evaluation Database Manager Job in Kenya

MONITORING & EVALUATION DATABASE MANAGER
Overview:
Nuru International Kenya is a reputable organization with a mission of ending extreme poverty in rural communities of Kenya. With programs in agriculture, health, education, and community economic development, Nuru’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Program aims to measure all programs so that Nuru can be effective, sustainable and scalable. The Monitoring & Evaluation Database Manager is a newly created role to be initially filled in before April 2013. The position will report to the District Manager of Monitoring & Evaluation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Train staff on the use of relational database
  • Research and resolve technical issues of database users from all program areas (Agriculture, CED, Education, Healthcare, and M&E)
  • Take steps to ensure quality of data by managing data access permissions and editing as needed
  • Creation and interpretation of trends in graphs and charts for use in decision making
  • Summarize and analyze samples of data, including construction of confidence intervals and statistical tests of significance
  • Communicating regularly with technical and operational staff to ensure data integrity and security
  • Monitoring database performance and communicating regularly with M&E District Manager and Data Scientist
Required skills and attributes:
  • Degree in Mathematics, IT, Statistics, or other quantitative area
  • Desire to help others understand technology and use metrics to focus and improve programs
  • Understanding and ability to summarize various data types (continuous, binomial, categorical)
  • Understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically measuring mean, standard deviation, confidence intervals, and tests of significance
  • Experience writing formulas to manipulate large datasets in Excel or other statistical program
  • Experience using relational databases, Microsoft Access, and/or SQL
  • Experience using STATA or other statistical software, such as SPSS or SAS
  • Fluent in Swahili and English
  • Long-term commitment to ending extreme poverty in rural areas of Kuria, Kenya
  • Should be an effective team member
  • Should demonstrate servant leadership skills
