Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is US non-governmental organization headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, that works with partners worldwide to reduce poverty and injustice by helping communities increase and expand the resources they need to live productive, healthy and empowered lives.
LWR, with a regional office in Nairobi, Kenya and Country Offices in Uganda and Tanzania, currently seeks to recruit for the position of a Country Director (CD) for its Kenya Operations that consist of a portfolio of programs with partners in agriculture value chain development, natural resource management, health and livelihoods.
Purpose:
The CD is the leader-manager for LWR’s office in Kenya and the official spokesperson for LWR in the country.
Her/his primary responsibility is to develop both short-term and long-term strategies for sustainable development, provide direction and vision to office staff and coordinate with peer international NGOs in a manner that comports with LWR’s vision, values, and strategy.
S/he plays a key role, working with other LWR Departments to link programs and partners to donor, constituent, and advocacy targets.
The CD also has overall responsibility for ensuring that the office is efficiently and effectively managed according to policies, and liaising with local government
Key skills, Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to LWR’s core values and ability to model those values in relationship with partners and colleagues.
Demonstrated experience in the design, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of sustainable development programs.
Strong skills in value chain development for agricultural products and in financial and budget management.
Sound practical experience with country level strategy planning and working with partners.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to travel up to 40 percent of his/her time.
A master’s degree in rural development, natural resources management and agriculture or agricultural economics with over eight years senior program management experience in the development sector and at least five years of direct financial management experience.
