Grain Bulk Handlers Limited is the market leader in handling bulk grain in the port
of Mombasa.
We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill the following vacancy at our grain
terminal.
ASSISTANT LEGAL COUNSEL
The position reports to the Legal Counsel.
The incumbent will ensure that all Company interests are legally protected.
Key Responsibilities:
• Hold periodical meetings with external lawyers and discuss files handled by
them and report findings to the Legal Counsel.
• Keep an up to date schedule on matters dismissed, cleared and judgments
entered against the Company.
• Keep an up to date schedule of costs incurred; in both civil and criminal cases.
• Review court awards and advise if decretal sums are to be paid or to appeal
against the court judgment(s).
• Review court files from time to time and advise whether or not to settle.
• Receive court summons and lead the investigation team.
• Confirm that documents forwarded to external lawyers are the correct ones.
• Attend court proceedings instituted against the Company and prepare
witnesses who attend court to give evidence on behalf of Company.
• Monitor court files and ensure that external lawyers are handling their cases
well.
Essential Qualifications and skills:
• An LLB degree from a recognized University.
• Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
• Arbitration and CPS qualifications will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 7 Years practical experience as an In-house Legal Counsel in a
busy business environment.
• Working Knowledge of Project Finance.
• Hands on experience in Commercial Law.
• Competent with Computer Software Packages.
• Have a valid Driving license
• Team Player with good communication and interpersonal people
management skills
