We are seeking to fill the following vacancy based at AMREF Flying Doctors
Emergency Flight Nurse
Ref: AFD/001/2013
Reporting to the Medical Director, the Emergency Flight Nurse will
provide medical emergency patient care on the ground and in the air,
including other related tasks as advised by the department head.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Accompany Air Ambulance flights in Eastern Africa, continental and inter-continental with and without a flight physician on a 24-hour duty roster;
- Escort patients on commercial airline;
- Provide advanced life support to casualties at accident site, airstrip, in flight or on ground until hand over at the hospital, including stabilization and resuscitation;
- Man the 24-hour control centre and communicate as required using radio communication and any other modes of modern communication.
- Provide medical coverage at special events (Safari rally, Marathon, Horse shows) by helicopter, ground ambulance or in a make shift medical facility (tents);
- Handle all medical equipment;
- Be available from home for emergency flights or other duties during night time, weekends and public holidays according to the on-call duty roster;
- Visit patients in hospital and obtain follow up reports;
- Write evacuation reports for fundraising or PR related purposes.
- Participate in marketing and/or fundraising events
The ideal candidate will be a Kenya Registered Nurse with at least 4
years working experience as a nurse, a Diploma in Intensive Care
Nursing and a minimum of 2 years ICU working experience.
Additionally s/he should have current qualifications in ACLS, ATLS
and PALS with experience in pre-hospital emergency patient care and
radio communication.
The successful candidate must be able to take up the post by 01 March, 2013.
