Laboratory Analyst job in Kenya

Function: Laboratory Analyst

Reporting To: Senior analyst or in his/her absence to the laboratory Manager

Objectives 

Test Non-food products, water and any other items which require physical, sensory and /or chemical tests as per the national, international and industry standards or clients’ guidelines
 

Ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system and more especially ISO 17025.

Ensure that the results and test data produced is accurate, reliable and within acceptable repeatability/reproducibility. Maintain repeatability/reproducibility values for major tests carried out.

Ensure that clients testing requirements are fully met and set turnaround time is complied with at all times.

Ensure that health and safety measures are adhered to in regard to general hygiene, sample testing, sample retention, disposal/destruction.

Ensure that clients testing requirements are met within the required turnaround time

Specifics Tasks

• Test foods, Non-food products, environmental and water products as per the national, international and industry standard methods or clients’ requirements as appropriate.
• Ensure that raw data of analysis carried out clearly supports results obtained prior to subsequent approval.
• Maintain a QC charts on testing activities to support continual validity of tests results obtained and report any deviations to the management for immediate action.
• Ensure that all tests, reporting and filling of test information are carried out in compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system and more especially ISO 17025
• Ensure that the process control form is strictly followed and fully completed throughout the analysis process.
• Ensure that the results and the test data produced is accurate, reliable and within acceptable repeatability/reproducibly. Maintain repeatability/reproducibly values for major tests carried out.
• Ensure that calibration status of all equipment used is verified at all times before any testing is carried out and any equipment out of calibration reported immediately.
• Ensure that clients testing requirement are fully met and set turnaround time is complied with at all times
• Ensure that all laboratory activities under your control are carried in safe manner and any unsafe situation reported promptly to management for necessary action. This applies to general hygiene, sample testing, sample retention and sample disposal/destruction.
• Keep abreast with the latest development of analytical standards related to microbiology and food technologies in order to continuously develop new methods and capabilities for validation and final adoption.

Interfaces

• Liaise with analysts in other sections to ensure proper coordination of tests done in other sections on the same samples.
• Notify the laboratory management of any establishment or any other problems related to QA, efficiency and operations in the laboratory.
• Notify the laboratory management of all relevant information for communication to clients and other interested parties.
• Notify the laboratory management of any clients’ complaints.
• Develop multi skill in other laboratories for future growth e.g. Chemical laboratories and Instruments labs

Key Performance Indicators

• Analysis turnaround time as per the analysis process control
• Correct application of the test methodologies as per the laboratory Capability list
• Accuracy, reproducibility and reliability of tests results/reports.
• Good performance in Proficiency Testing Schemes e.g. EAC, SADCMET, SABS, LQSI

Profile of the Laboratory Analyst

• Be at least 28 years old.
• At least a Degree or Diploma Chemistry/Analytical chemistry or equivalent qualification from recognized institution.
• At least one year laboratory testing experience in a Chemical or Food Laboratory.
• Good knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 9001 and HSE standards.
• Have a working knowledge of major instruments such as the Auto digester (Protein), Soxhlet apparatus, Muffle furnace, BOD digester, Calorimeter, Flourometer, Bomb calorimeter,

Salary: 50K - 80K
