1. Background and Context
VSF Germany is an international Non Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid
and development support to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where
livestock is of central role in food security and livelihood. In the region, VSF Germany
implements activities in southern Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania and Ethiopia.
With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety but also with developing
the capacity of communities and governmental institutions and supporting conflict
prevention activities VSF Germany works towards food security and strengthened livelihoods
of pastoralist communities.
Since April 2010, VSF Germany is the lead Agency for the Productive Asset Recovery and
Institutional Strengthening project in Gogrial East County, Warrap State. This is a EU food
security funding with a strong agricultural production sector
Overall purpose of job:
To support the implementation of the Agricultural activities for the Warrap State programme
Key Responsibilities
As the project officer, undertake planning of activities as per approved proposals,
budgets and log frame
Undertake capacity building and training activities to the local associates, local
government agricultural department as well as extension officers of the project
Take lead in supporting crop farmers to start vegetable gardens
Support stable food production activities; seed multiplication and bulking; better tillage
to the identified beneficiaries; introduction and support to the tree planting activities
Support Extension Officers to identify, register and verify target beneficiaries
Support the design, establishment and operation of Farmer Field Schools
Participate in the planning, design and conducting of assessments relevant to the project
implementation.
Participate in state coordination activities relevant to the sector
Develop activity reports monthly and quarterly as well as annual reports
Any other assignments relevant to this post
Qualifications
Minimum Diploma in Agriculture or any other relevant qualifications
At least 2 years experience in agricultural activities implementation at the field level
Experience in research work
Knowledge of and experience in Agro- pastoral livelihoods is an added advantage
Willingness to travel remote areas within Warrap State
Location
The work station is Luonyaker in Gogrial East but demands frequent travel and long stay in
other counties of Warrap State.
Time Frame
The assignment is for initial 12 months from April 1st 2012 to April 2013 with possibility of
extension depending on funding.
