As part of the implementation of our strategy, two exciting opportunities have emerged within our organisation:-
The position reports to the Group CEO and will be responsible for steering the implementation of the organisation’s strategy, playing a leading role in the development of corporate policies, business plans and budgets, implementation of best practice human capital management policies, and working with stakeholders - both internal and external.
The MFI is the largest investment within the investment group, with ambitious plans to become a significant player in its chosen niche. The position of General Manager is thus a strategic role that offers a great opportunity to grow with the organization and further one’s career in the financial services industry.
The main responsibilities of the role will be to :
Develop and direct the implementation of the organisation’s strategy, and ensure adherence to the related annual operating budgets;
Manage overall company performance and ensure the achievement of key objectives and performance indicators within all departments;
Ensure that all staff recruited in the institution have the skills and competencies to effectively deliver a high standard of service to customers and other stakeholders;
Build a culture of customer service through the development and effective implementation of client-focused systems, processes and values;
Participate actively in the innovation and development of products;
Maintain and develop relationships with all stakeholders including members of the Board of Directors, shareholders/ members, suppliers, regulators amongst others;
Take overall responsibility for the consistency and accuracy of financial and operating performance reports, and to regularly make presentations to both the Board of the MFI.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience at a senior level, with a significant portion of this having been within a bank or microfinance institution, and preferably one with countrywide
operations.
You will have excellent analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to create a positive environment and to promote a high level of staff morale.
You will be able to lead a team to achieve results.
Reporting to the Audit Committee of the Board of the MFI, the Internal Auditor will monitor and evaluate compliance with internal control and financial reporting policies and procedures and both report on any instances of non- compliance as well as enhance the risk management practices of the institution.
The main duties of the role will be to:
Evaluate institutional controls to determine their effectiveness and adequacy;
Work with senior management to assess institutional risks;
Develop an audit plan that reflects the results of the risk assessment;
Recommend improvements to institutional controls, where required;
Determine and report on the level of compliance with laid down internal policies and procedures, statutory and regulatory requirements;
Support the Audit Committee in the execution of its mandate to ensure a sound governance structure in the organization;
Carry out special audits as may be required by management;
Make periodic reports to the Audit Committee;
Evaluate the budget and assess its overall effectiveness for the institution as a planning and expenditure control tool;
Liaise with the external auditors as may be required.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
A first degree from a recognized university in a business related subject;
CPA(K) , ACCA or Chartered Accountant;
Extensive internal audit experience, some of which must have been acquired in a financial institution environment;
Knowledge of computer assisted auditing techniques , and have attained Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designation, or working towards attaining the certification;
A regional mindset and the ability to operate in a dynamic environment ;
Able to manage cross-functional issues;
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness and ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the business;
Familiarity with accounting packages used in financial institutions will be an added advantage.
They must also be willing to travel extensively in the country on a regular basis.
