Position Description
The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), is seeking to fill the position of Finance Intern at the CIAT-TSBF office in Nairobi. The internship will be for a period of three (3) months under the general supervision of the Finance Officer and the direct supervision of the Project Accountant. The position is intended to assist the intern gain technical knowledge in the area of Finance and gain experience in an international multi-cultural environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in preparing payment summaries and vouchers for service provider invoices and for staff travel advances
• Assist in organizing documents for signature in a folder and following up to ensure they are signed in good time
• Assist in tracking the flow of documents into and out of the finance office
• Assist in maintaining a filing system and to ensure proper custody and tracking of finance documents i.e. vouchers, supplier invoices, bank correspondence, etc.
• Assist in invoicing staff for private use of resources such as vehicles, telephone, etc. and to follow up to ensure that payments are made
• Assist in registering Travel Authorizations and maintain and update the TA register
• Confirm bank details with suppliers
• Assist in recording transactions to the accounting system, Oracle
• Perform any duties as may be assigned by the Finance Officer or the project accountant

• Must be able to work under pressure but at the same time pay attention to details and meet deadlines
• Must be willing to learn, be flexible and able to adapt quickly to new and diverse environment
• Possess excellent ability with figures and respect confidentiality
• Strong ability to co-ordinate, prioritize and organize workload and to take initiative
• Good organizational and multi-tasking skills with a positive attitude and a strong service orientation
• Good communication skills
Requirements
• Continuing CPA II and above
• Completed CPA or Accounting degree not more than three months ago
• Proficiency in Ms Office (Excel, Outlook, Word etc)
