Futures Group has deep expertise in policy and advocacy, research and strategic information, health markets and private sector engagement, modeling and economic analysis, patient monitoring and management/HMIS, strategic consulting, and program management.
 

Position Summary: Futures Group is seeking a Communications Assistant who will support the
Health Policy Project (HPP) communication and dissemination activities in Kenya, to achieve higher visibility in the country. 

The incumbent of this position will report to the Senior Communications Advisor. Location for this position is Nairobi, Kenya. 

No expatriate benefits are associated with this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • To track media coverage of issues related to HPP work in Kenya and alert staff if intervention/follow-up is required;
  • To maintain and update HPP/Kenya mailing list/database;
  • To draft press releases related to key events, and in-depth articles on HPP work in Kenya for use on HPP website and for local media;
  • To coordinate dissemination workshops, including managing invitation lists, confirmations, event logistics, branding and media coordination;
  • To ensure that the HPP/Kenya website is up to date and all information is accurate. This will involve liaising with the Web Content manager and uploading information;
  • To assist in local production of publications, banners, brochures and other printed material with vendors, from design and concept to print production;
  • To assist technical staff in preparing power point presentations and conference posters
  • To manage all HPP/Kenya photography assignments and establish a photobank/repository for staff use.
Qualifications
 
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
  • A university degree or a diploma in Communications, Journalism, International Relations or a relevant field;
  • Strong writing skills, a writing test will be administered to all candidates being interviewed;
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in Journalism, Development, Communication, or a related field;
  • Experience working in the development/NGO sector
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong communications skills;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Solid computer skills, including photo editing and desktop publishing.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility
