Job Role,
Duties and Responsibilities
FAO Kenya is looking for a Communication
Assistant to support the outreach and visibility efforts of the Organization in
Kenya. The incumbent would be under the overall supervision of the FAO Liaison Officer in Kenya
and under the direct supervision of the FAO
Communication Officer while working
closely with staff from across the office.
General
Description of task(s) and
objectives to be achieved
Description of Duties
- Assist in the production of clear, persuasive and accessible communication products including human interest stories, fact sheets, newsletters, briefings and press releases;
- Undertake missions to the field to document project success stories;
- Provide reporting, writing and editorial support to programme units;
- Assist in identifying feature stories and other material to be profiled through sub-regional, regional and HQ offices to facilitate global advocacy and fund-raising activities;
- Assist in developing and managing the FAO Kenya website and social media platforms;
KEY PERFORMANCE
INDICATORS
Expected Outputs:
- One success story/human interest story/media release per month with accompanying photos
- One newsletter per quarter
- One fact sheet per quarter
- One field mission per quarter
- Weekly social media updates
- Bi-weekly maintenance of web site
- Weekly roundup of FAO-interest news in the local media
Skills and Qualifications
- University degree in social sciences, communication, media, journalism or related discipline;
- Three years of relevant professional experience in communication, public relations and/or media;
- Fluency in English, with excellent writing skills;
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing effective media and communication materials in support of outreach and visibility;
- Excellent organizational skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines;
- Excellent IT skills, including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Publisher, Illustrator and InDesign an advantage.
- Good understanding of humanitarian/development issues in Kenya and the region. Experience with print and broadcast media is an advantage.
