Entertainment is one of the largest
growing industries here in Kenya and the world over. Gone are the days when one
would view entertainment as just a plus to education as it has helped build a
lot of people’s careers who would have otherwise been out in the cold waiting
for someone to employ them. Entertainment is a way of life rich in diversity
and the route one chooses to follow in entertainment to build his or her career
highly depends on his roots or beliefs he has prescribed to with the modern
trends.
It’s highly evident that the
entertainment scene has witnessed a number of successful people who have taken
it as a career and also its fair share of flawed acts that lack dynamism and
have stuck at the same position they were 10 years ago. When one opts to take
entertainment as a career, the cream of the matter is to have fun and at the
same time make others have fun. From the now all famous phrase ‘you should not
get high on your own supply”, an entertainer for instance a deejay or a
musician cannot play or compose songs that he likes but what gets the crowd
going or rather a comedian cannot crack and laugh at his own jokes, it sounds
absurd. We have
witnessed a number of entertainers whose talents have gone down
the drain just because of lack of self drive, some include; Kenyan musicians
like jimwhat although he’s getting back on his feet, Whitney Houston, Mike
Tyson , Lindsey lohan among others.
Most people who have made
entertainment a career and ripped off it are the ones that came into the
industry with a keen eye for detail. Knowing when stand up dust you coat and
soldier on is the thin line that divides top entertainment entrepreneurs from
the other group of jokers who are there to display theatrics that don’t earn
them a living. We’ve had it all said before by the movers and shakers of the
entertainment scene from straight up live interviews at various local and
international television and radio stations, and the underlined words from each
and every one of them is how they had to walk an extra mile and remain focused
for them to be where they are now. Known comedians like jalang’o, Erico,
Churchill , Event organizers like big ted, big kev, Musicians like Redsan ,
juakali ,Amani ,nameless, fashion icons who have made it big all have one thing
in common they held their dangerous cards beneath the table.
What in entertainment I would say
can send you packing before you start your career is the lack of originality
and persistent eagerness to grow when it’s clear that you are a midget that
lacks potential growth. If a door closes on you because you can’t model don’t
get all worked up or frustrated try another career in entertainment if you
think you were built for that.
Entertainment in my own perspective
I would say is one of the most lucrative upcoming career industry and if anyone
was built or bred for that he should go into it but with a keen eye. Lack of focus and over indulgence in the fame
and glory is what kills the ambition.
