AUF seeks to recruit the following Interns:

(a) 1 Programmes Intern and 
(b) 1 Grants Management Intern. 

1. Programmes Intern 
1 Position 

Job Summary 
The Programmes Intern reports directly to the Programmes Coordinator and works closely with the Programmes Officer and Programmes Assistant. He/she will assist with duties within the AUF Programmes Department including but not restricted to assisting in programmes communication, programmes convenings, programmes reporting and fundraising.

Key Responsibilities 
Assist in generating, maintaining and updating of print and electronic documentation of key programmes information. This shall include support in ensuring consistent and regular dissemination of Programmes' work in the social media. Assist in conducting of research and mapping of emerging issues and trends in human rights and social justice work within the East African region that can be useful in determining AUF funding support. Assist in organising and documenting of Programmes convenings and internal meetings. This includes offering support in logistics and taking minutes during Grants Review Committee Meetings and other Programmes Department meetings. Assist in preparation and maintenance of correspondence to AUF non-grantee partners. This shall include maintaining and regularly updating a database of all AUF non-grantee partners. Assist in monitoring of dissemination of Programmes' work in the mainstream and social media as well as generation of AUF publications. Assist in Programmes reporting including in development of donor reports, annual reports and Board of Directors reports. Assist in fundraising including in the development of funding proposals.  

Desired Qualifications 
A Bachelors Degree in any relevant social sciences including public policy, international relations, political science, social studies, development studies, law or related fields Demonstrable passion and familiarity with current human rights and social justice issues, the East African Community (EAC) regional integration and people-centred development. Demonstrable interest and/or experience in working in human rights research, advocacy, donor reporting, project management including projects monitoring and evaluation particularly with grassroots/community-based organizations in East Africa and/or events management. Demonstrated proficiency in use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Excellent research, analytical and strategic thinking skills and experience. Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and presentation skills in English. Proficiency in Kiswahili and French will be a strong advantage. Ability to work and deliver assignments on time including working within short deadlines without or with minimal supervision. Reliable and able to handle confidential issues. Sensitivity, flexibility, tolerance and ability to work both independently and as a part of a team. Possession of good office skills and etiquette. A sense of good humour too would be highly welcome!

2. Grants Management Intern 
 1 Position 

Job Summary 
The Grants Management Intern reports directly to the Programmes Coordinator and works closely with the Programmes Officer, the Programmes Assistant and the Finance & Grants Management Accountant (FGMA). He/she will assist with duties within the AUF Programmes and Grants Departments including but not restricted to assisting in grants management, grants communication, monitoring and evaluation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities 
Assist in preparation of background information for grantee partners' selection, review of proposals, plans and budgets from potential grantee partners. Assist in preparation and maintenance of correspondence to AUF Grantees including ensuring timely grantee reporting and implementation of Grants Review Committee. Liaising with the Finance Office and Programmes Assistant to ensure timely disbursement of funds to grantees towards implementation of funded projects. This will also involve monitoring grants-related Programmes expenditure vis-a-vis available funds and providing regular analyses of grants trends. Assist in monitoring and evaluation of grantee partners including being involved in monitoring visits and preparation of grants monitoring reports. Assist in routine grants-related reporting including in preparation of grants info for use in periodic Programmes Review meetings (monthly, quarterly and annually), donor reports, Board reports and Grants Review Committee reports. Assist in data entry and maintenance as well as regular updating of grants management database. General grants filing and documentation support.
