The Nairobi Securities Exchange is seeking to recruit an exceptional professional to fill the position of
Head of Operations & Technology
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of a credible trading environment that meets international standards in accordance with capital market regulations and guidelines.
He/ she will also be responsible for strategy formulation and implementation of Information Technology (IT) policies and ensuring alignment of technology for business support and product development.
The roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate will include the following:
•Providing guidance to the market in the formulation of rules and procedures in line with global trends; liaising with market players and the Capital Markets Authority in the approval, ratification and dissemination of Trading Rules;
•Enhancing the trading of securities in a trading environment that meets the best international standards and in accordance with capital market regulations and guidelines;
•Working with the Central Depository & Settlement Corporation (CDSC) and the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on the trading and settlement inter-phase;
•Identifying existing and emerging technologies and evaluating their utilisation and applicability while ensuring that the Automated Trading System (ATS), the Broker Back Office (BBO), the Wide Area Network (WAN) and other IT platforms in use by the NSE keep pace with technological innovations and developments;
•Maintaining and nurturing a close working relationship with regional and international securities markets for exchange of ideas, technology and practices;
•Providing effective leadership to multidisciplinary teams to enable them develop, implement and evaluate strategic management plans and budgets aimed at improving performance standards and organisational effectiveness;
•Analysing and implementing appropriate solutions to operational problems;
•Overseeing IT related projects and preparing funding proposals and budgets for technology improvements; and
•Monitoring and evaluating the performance of departmental staff against set targets and implementing development action plans aimed at building the capacity of the staff.
The key qualifications and skills required for this position are as follows:
•Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Economics, Management, Finance or related field; Possession of a masters degree will be an added advantage;
•Minimum eight (8) years experience in capital markets operations, IT, financial markets or financial services sector;
•Knowledge of the capital markets, financial markets or financial services sector; the Exchange’s Trading Rules and Procedures and the Capital Markets Authority Act, Rules and Regulations;
•Knowledge of IT systems that support NSE operations;
•Excellent analytical and business decision making skills;
•Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information and to ensure absolute discretion and sensitivity to confidential matters;
•Team player with a proactive approach to work; and
•Membership to a relevant professional body.
This is a highly challenging leadership role that requires a dynamic, highly motivated and mature person with capacity to manage and direct the departmental operations.
He/ she must have high integrity and have ability to work under pressure to meet strict timelines.
