Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an Officer Must: -
Have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean Grade ‘D’ plain or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
Boiler operators certificate from a recognized institution
Thorough understanding of boiler operator and fuel handler duties and responsibilities
Experience in the maintenance and operation of boilers
Ability to read and interpret written orders, control gauges, manufacturers operation instruction books and to record boiler plant information
Attended a First Aid certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution
Duties and Responsibilities: -
The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidates will include the following: -
Observes pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, stoker, Pulverizer and burners
Turns valves and adjust controls to set specified fuel feed, draft openings, water levels, and steam pressure of boilers
Observes boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions/ possible breakdowns
Makes repairs, such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings
Test and treat boiler feed water, using specified chemicals
Maintain log of meter and gauge readings and record data, such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed
Liaising with mechanics for boiler servicing
Maintains oil heaters, pumps, oil storage facilities, and oil unloading equipment
Making daily and weekly oil checks
Maintaining the cleanliness of the plants.
Successful candidates will be deployed in any of the Training colleges within the Police Department.
