DEPUTY CHIEF ACCOUNTANT
The fastest growing newspaper in Kenya is looking for a seasoned accountant keen on a career enhancing
opportunity to take up the position of Deputy Chief Accountant.
Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the incumbent will be responsible for providing technical accounting
services, financial guidance and prompt reporting, while ably deputizing the Chief Accountant.
Key Responsibilities of the job
• Participate in annual budget preparation and continuous variance analysis
• Ensure adherence to the approved budget including payment projections and cash-flow forecasts
• Prepare weekly and monthly management accounts and reports
• Review the company’s monthly bank reconciliations and ensure that there is no backing
• Ensure full adherence of tax regulations, accounting standards and best practice
• Review monthly supplier statement reconciliations prior to making payments and maintain an
excellent relationship with all suppliers
• Manage the procurement process and ensure adherence to the procurement and budgetary plan
• Ensure that the fixed asset register is up to date and that all company assets are safeguarded
• Support the Chief Accountant in ensuring that the audit process and schedule are adhered to
• Review the company’s liquidity position and prepare the cash and bank reports as required and
reallocate bank balances between various banks as agreed with the Chief Accountant to ensure
efficient utilization of the bank facilities
• Uphold the company’s credit policy, spearhead the continuous evaluation of customer credit
worthiness for existing and new customers and make the necessary recommendations to
management
• Ensure proper and up to date records are maintained for all accounting, business and customer
transactions
• Work with the Chief Accountant to mentor and coach the accounts team and ensure that their annual
performance objectives are met
Qualifications for the job
• Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) or related first degree
• CPA (K) or ACCA
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a busy commercial environment, in a mid-level accounting position
with experience in handling financial accounting, management accounting, basic treasury duties and
credit control
• Working experience in Navision Accounting system is preferable
• Excellent financial reporting skills
• Sound understanding of accounting standards
